Cyber Security Research Excellence Course
Cyber Security Research Excellence Course offers the students opportunity to work on a specific problem or a project over a year-long period, which enables to develop an in-depth understanding of a specific topic and obtain valuable experience in conducting research.
Long-term objective To strengthen Estonia's position on international cyber security research excellence
Objective To give cyber security students a unique experience in academic research, working on industry-related projects, academic writing, and presenting their work to an international audience.
Expected outcome To write a paper to be published at a conference or in a journal based on original research done over the year. Also, to build international long-term collaborations with students and supervisors at TalTech University, partner universities and companies. A course can lead to finding a topic for a MSc thesis, an academic career or industry collaboration.
Target group The course is targeted at cyber security MSc students, who have a strong interest in pursuing an academic career, conducting research, and publishing papers.
Timeline The students will actively "drive" the course and set their own milestones. Throughout the course the students will be constantly mentored by international team of supervisors.
October Getting acquainted with the course
November - December Signing up for the course, selecting the topic area, starting a literature review
January Option to participate at Research Bootcamp at the University of Adelaide
February - May Regular meetings with the supervisors. Submitting a research abstract and initial findings to the ICR
June Attending at ICR and presenting (if accepted) ongoing research at the workshop
Autumn In the second half of the year focus on analyzing data, writing-up a paper
October Poster presenting research methodology, and results
January Research paper draft ready to submit to journal or conference
