The Department of Marine Systems invites applications for a professor position in Meteorolgy. The aim of the position is to maintain high level and internationally competitive research and education in the field of modelling based meteorology and climatology at the Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) according to priorities of TalTech.
The tasks of the Professor of Meteorology are to create a sustainable meteorological research team, to lead the group's scientific research and to promote collaboration with other research groups. Creating and developing research links with major meteorological research centers in Europe. The research should focus on the development and implementation of high-resolution atmospheric forecasting models, studies of atmospheric-sea-ice boundary layer processes; the use of global climate scenarios for the analysis of regional realizations. The Professor of Meteorology has to carry out teaching of meteorological subjects for the main specialization of oceanography and meteorology, supervision of PhD studies and ensuring successful and timely defense. It is important to conduct continuing education open courses in meteorology and climatology. The Professor of Meteorology participates in the work of national and international decision bodies and commissions and editor boards of scientific journals. Development tasks include collaboration with business sector in preparation and carrying out applied research projects; collaboration with national weather service is important.

TalTech is the only higher education institution in Estonia which provides meteorological education in all three higher education (bachelor, master and doctoral) levels. The task of the Department of Marine Systems of TalTech is to conduct fundamental and applied research to study and model physical (especially hydrodynamic) and biogeochemical processes in the context of atmospheric, land and human impact drivers in the Baltic Sea. Stronger integration of teaching and research in meteorology and oceanography will enable high-level international research and training of professionals in this field.
